CLIMATE SIGHT

The Practice of Sustainable Design | Holly Robbins | Spring 25

In borderland regions like San Diego–Tijuana, where cross-cultural dynamics are essential to any adaptation strategy, this gap in effective communication is especially pressing. The absence of accessible and inclusive tools hinders public understanding of climate risks and limits opportunities for collective resilience. Historically vulnerable communities, which are often the most exposed to climate hazards, are frequently excluded from both messaging and planning efforts. Climate justice demands that these communities be acknowledged and centered in the design and delivery of communication strategies. There is an urgent need to translate climate science into formats that resonate with regional experiences, dismantle barriers to engagement, and equip communities with the knowledge and tools they need to build resilience and participate in adaptation efforts.

Climate Sight is a public-facing toolbox that aims to make climate risks and adaptation efforts visible, relatable, and actionable at the community level. The name reflects the core purpose: bringing climate information into clear sight, into the streets, into daily awareness, and into the hands of those who need it most.
